| A History of Us

We love buying books from Alibris. Not only is it possible to find rare-ish books, but in keeping with our spirit of re-use (and our stinginess), it's a treasure trove of used volumes. Take look at America Divided: The Civil War of the 1960s by Maurice Isserman, and Michael Kazin. According to the blurb, this history of the 1960's covers the major movements for change, such as the civil rights movement, the rise of the counterculture, the New Left, and the women's movement.
It also considers how the Kennedy, Johnson, and Nixon administrations reflected or responded to the times. Authors Isserman and Kazin assert that traditional liberals lost ground to conservative Republicans and that by the beginning of the 1970's had been discredited, probably unjustifiably so. We confess to having not read it yet, but maybe one of you Boomers will read and review for us.
