There seems to be a conflict lately when the words ãsubstance abusersä transpose to ãusers of substanceä and definitely creates two entirely different conversations. My comment concerns the latter.
Ever since the fields of pharmaceuticals and public relations got together, there not only seems a frenetic need for anti-wrinkle products and multiple variations of viagra, but a pill for every ache and pain, and pills to counteract the effects of other pills (all of which involve exhorbitant costs) . Itâs just not easy for some people with adequate health insurance to resist this all-you-can-take buffet of prescriptions. Interesting to me, by the way, the FDA has no problem allowing free reign to those pharmaceutical companies to do whatever they want, no problems passing things like Bextra and Vioxx, but stumble all over themselves (and the politicians) when it comes to things like medicinal marijuana.
And while it is sadly true there seems to be once again a growing infestation of harmful illegal chemicals (specifically Meth) taking down people of all ages lately, the marketing of that virtually harmless leafy green substance doesnât seem to have changed in 40 years, nor has the ability to not get carded at the local liquor store, both of which accomplish a great deal for those (and of them there are many) without adequate health insurance to get the legal stuff.
Weâre living in a world that seems to be failing at every turn. Things we thought we could count on just one day no longer exist. Amid political and social turmoil, alarming reports on the eco-systems of our planet, changing views of employment, frightening financial futures, failing health, and witnessing the transition of generational power to a group of young adults whose primary concern is the television reception on their cell phones, perhaps that one toke over the line is what we need sometimes, however we can get it.

At this age of "Baby Boomers" I sencse a feeling of the free love affect! NOT SO! The affect of age insists that you recognize " THE CHANGE" of life. We all go through it, male and female. It just so happens that a majority of "Baby Boomers" are going through it. "Drug addiction?, or, need to self medicate?,
I don't know about you, BUT, my parents never told me about illness's that were handed down through genetics. I had to find out by searching for my family who still exisit's.
I could use some vicoden, or zanax, or an anti anxiety drug, somthing to help me sleep due to the insomnia! And hot flashes. because I can't take hormones.
How many men are out there suffering from the change and won't admit it, because their parents were too proud to tell them! We, in the "Baby Boomer" generation are dealing with young Dr's and nurses that have no clue of the " Change of Life" process.

Well, we can't blame our parents for everything now, can we? According to their younger generation, smoking was a cool thing to do (not unhealthy at all), people in their aging years were just considered looney (alzheimers hadn't been invented yet), and electric shock cured those developmentally challenged. The Boomers are the ones, most educated to-date, aware of the mental, physical, and spiritual areas more than any generation before. It was our generation that changed the entire way of educational thinking, from teaching through researching; so it's logical to assume only the ones younger than us are the one just starting to benefit from all that new knowledge.
I totally understand how it feels to try and explain menopause to a 20-something young physician, or try to come to terms with the idea of finding a mental health counselor who's not fresh out of med school to discuss the confusions of aging. Reality is, I guess, old crones such as ourselves who did have careers in said fields are more than likely retired in Palm Beach these days.
