Viet Nam Remembered

I meant to post this quite awhile ago, but it doesn't seem to have lost any relevance in the meantime.

This is an in interesting Australian take on the war in Iraq, the baby boomer positions on that war and on a searing article by Frank Rich in the NY Times. Referring to comparisons to Viet Nam, Michael Gawenda, the columnist in The Sydney Morning Herald believes we cannot draw parallels to Viet Nam, a comparison which some believe is valid even as it enrages the Bush administration.

Frank Rich's original article is available only for a fee on the Times, but his most recent article continues the debate.

Uhm Hmm.Yet another "Early Boomer"who gladly missed the War decides to bring the same old song and dance again:"The Anti War Crowd Caused The North Vietnamese To win!.

Look,Nam was a bastardized war if there ever was one!!Contrary to Urban Legend,JFK wasn't even remotely planning on bringing the 'Advisors'home.
Sure,he was signing orders to reduce some of the number of advisors home at the time of his Assanation.
But it was only a token few.Chances are,he woulda stumbled into it just like LBJ did.
The only difference was that it mighta been looked on more favorably if he would've been Prersident instead of LBJ.
Even Nixon knew it was an unwinnable situation. It was recently released that Kissinger asked the North Vietnamese to hold off long enough for the Troops to be withdrawn.
It doesn't mean I condone what a lot of Anti War protestors did,and although I was a kid,I still feel that the treatment our Troops received was shameful!!
Of course, now Vietnam is one of our trading partners,so the same bunch who avoided the War are over there making big deals with them now!
By the way,I also mean no disrespect to the Citizens and Servicemen and Women of Australia either!!
The Aussies fought very bravely in WW1;WW2;Korea;Nam;Afghanistan and Iraq.
So they have my deepest respects!!
